The Implementation of Healthy Lifestyle Education for Hypertension Patients in an Effort to Increase Patient Knowledge at Karel Sadsuitubun Langgur General Hospital
Abstract
Hypertension is one of the non-communicable diseases that is widely known by the public and is often dubbed as a silent killer because its symptoms are not visible but have a high risk of causing serious complications. Hypertension management does not only depend on pharmacological therapy, but also requires non-pharmacological interventions such as lifestyle changes. This study aims to describe nursing care for hypertensive patients through the provision of healthy lifestyle education as an effort to increase knowledge. The method used in this study is a descriptive research method with a case study approach based on nursing interventions regarding healthy lifestyle education. The subjects in this study were 20 people, with the percentage of increasing knowledge about a healthy lifestyle from 40% to 90%. Increased positive attitudes from 75% to 100%. Increased compliant behavior towards recommendations from 10% to 85%. The results of the study showed an increase in patient knowledge, changes in behavior towards a healthy lifestyle, and a significant decrease in blood pressure. Healthy lifestyle education has proven to be an effective intervention in helping hypertensive patients achieve better health status. It is hoped that nurses can integrate this education into daily nursing practice as part of promotive and preventive efforts.
