Abstract

The Community Service Program themed Education on Early Detection of Cervical and Breast Cancer was conducted on November 22, 2024, in Nania Village, Baguala District, Ambon City. The method used in this activity involved counseling and education on the early detection of cervical and breast cancer. This program aimed to raise awareness and knowledge among the women of Majelis Taklim Nurul Jannah about the importance of early detection of cervical and breast cancer, as well as to encourage preventive measures to reduce the risk of these diseases. The educational materials covered an introduction to cervical and breast cancer, risk factors, early symptoms, and the importance of routine screenings such as Pap smears and mammograms. A practical training session on Breast Self-Examination (BSE) was also provided using anatomical models. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with an average pre-test score of 50% rising to 85% in the post-test. The interactive discussion revealed high enthusiasm among participants, particularly regarding HPV vaccination as a preventive measure against cervical cancer. Another positive impact of this program was the formation of a health support group within Majelis Taklim Nurul Jannah, which plays a role in disseminating information and encouraging collective health screenings. This educational initiative has proven effective in improving participants' understanding and is expected to create a domino effect in raising broader community awareness about the importance of early detection of cervical and breast cancer.
