The educational materials covered an introduction to cervical and breast cancer, risk factors, early symptoms, and the importance of routine screenings such as Pap smears and mammograms. A practical training session on Breast Self-Examination (BSE) was also provided using anatomical models. Evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants' understanding, with an average pre-test score of 50% rising to 85% in the post-test. The interactive discussion revealed high enthusiasm among participants, particularly regarding HPV vaccination as a preventive measure against cervical cancer. Current stunting prevention programs are designed based on two main types of interventions: specific and sensitive. Combining these interventions is essential to produce comprehensive and lasting impacts. Specific interventions can include routine immunization, vitamin A provision for toddlers, iron supplements for pregnant women, and close monitoring in the first 1000 days of life. In February 2024, it was discovered that out of 40 toddlers in Tulehu Village, 20 of them experienced stunting. Another study stated that there were 91 stunted toddlers out of 648 toddlers in the village. Data from the Tulehu Health Center showed that there were around 150 children with stunting. The target of this activity is the emergence of awareness of mothers of toddlers in Tulehu Village in understanding balanced nutrition for stunting prevention, the existence of knowledge related to nutrition that can be applied in everyday life, and the distribution of local supplementary food that is right on target. At the Cempaka Putih 2 integrated health post, this activity was attended by 25 parents of toddlers and one form of community response from this activity was that there was a discussion session after the material. In addition, the main output produced was a report on community service activities.
Wahyuni Sammeng; Junieni Junieni, Khartini Kaluku ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://www.jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/index.php/JPG/article/view/619 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 14:58:33 +0700 Understanding Menopause: Reproductive Health and Well-being among Women of the Nurul Jannah Majelis Taklim, Nania Village https://www.jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/index.php/JPG/article/view/648
Menopause is a natural phase in a woman's life, marked by the cessation of menstruation and hormonal changes that affect physical, psychological, and social well-being. In Nania Village, knowledge about menopause remains limited, especially among members of the religious Majelis Taklim community who face barriers to information and are influenced by cultural stigmas surrounding reproductive health. This community engagement program aimed to enhance women's understanding and preparedness for menopause through education, counseling, and the establishment of support groups. The activity took place at Nurul Jannah Mosque with 20 participants. Topics included menopause awareness, symptoms, impacts, and strategies for managing physical and mental health. Pre-test results showed only 45% of participants had adequate knowledge, which increased to 90% post-activity. Participants reported increased confidence, reduced anxiety, and motivation to adopt healthier lifestyles. The program also fostered open discussions on previously taboo topics, strengthened ties between the community and health professionals, and gained support from religious leaders. Community-based, culturally sensitive education on menopause proves to be an effective approach to improving women's quality of life during aging.
Sitti Hermanses, Virgin Susilowati, fasiha fasiha, Sitti Sarifah Kotarumalos ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://www.jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/index.php/JPG/article/view/648 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 14:58:48 +0700 Nutrition Education For Diabetes Mellitus Prevention https://www.jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/index.php/JPG/article/view/657
Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease with increasing prevalence in Indonesia, largely due to unhealthy dietary patterns formed early in life. Nutrition education during adolescence is a key preventive strategy. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge of diabetes prevention through balanced healthy eating. The activity was conducted in October 2024 at SMK Al-Wathan Ambon, involving 65 students. A participatory educational approach was employed, including interactive lectures, group discussions, “My Plate” meal planning simulations, and evaluation using pre- and post-tests. The design followed a one-group pre-test and post-test format to assess knowledge improvement. Pre-test results indicated that most students had low to moderate understanding of nutrition and diabetes prevention. After the intervention, post-test scores increased significantly, with average knowledge scores rising from 56.2 to 78.9. Students responded enthusiastically, and most expressed willingness to apply healthy eating habits in their daily lives. Participatory nutrition education effectively enhanced students’ knowledge about diabetes prevention. This initiative should be sustained within school environments and supported by parents and school canteen management to foster long-term behavior change. The program is recommended for replication in other schools to extend its educational impact on adolescent health.
Rahma Tunny, Khartini Kaluku ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://www.jurnalpoltekkesmaluku.com/index.php/JPG/article/view/657 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 14:59:01 +0700
